In Which Elizabeth Gaskell and Judi Dench Demand that Lorien Read Theology
If ever motivation existed for trudging through the task of reading 175+ academic pages a day, planning two research projects, and writing book reviews, journal article critiques, and discussion board entries each and every day… … then it existed in the form of Cranford. My big boxes full of textbooks (half of which are bigger than the Bible, thank you.) arrived four weeks into an eight week graduate course. My first bona fide graduate course (nearly half of my Missouri State classes were 500s, but it’s not the same). My first course, period, in...

I am a fool. A smart fool, but a fool nonetheless. I have willingly signed up for more classes. My GPA is right on the border. 3.745. If I take just one more class, I’m bumped up to Magna CL in the U.S., and firmly upper Second Class in the U.K. I was fine with settling with a 3.74 in order to JUST BE DONE. Until I was looking at my transcript and thinking, but, but, that 3.75 would be awfully pretty… so I decided, okay. One more class. Then I thought, hmm. If I take two more classes, then I can receive most of my normal scholarships and grants and so on. That’d...

An Open Letter to Dr. Michael T. Nietzel, President of Missouri State University. President Nietzel, I respond to your official statement on the subject of our beloved University’s safety procedures. I am disappointed by the reiteration of Missouri State’s foolish and detrimental policy which prohibits legally carried firearms on our campus. We have seen in Virginia the danger of such discrimination. As a student of Missouri State University, I have at all times abided by the stated policy in that I have not carried a firearm onto campus. I have...

I’m being billed $60 for water damage and mold on a book that I checked out? I. Think. Not. Unfortunately, I suspect that when I go in to tell them that: They need to cancel the $170 that they billed to the bursar’s office when I had paid the full fines last week, fines which had then amounted to $133.75. I want to check-in about 20 books, pay the late fees ($3ish), and immediately check them back out. … that perhaps they won’t believe that my penchant for keeping books months later than I’m allowed to keep them is in fact evidence to how I would never allow...

I have experienced the laziest of Saturn’s days. I awoke at eight, promptly set water to boil, and caught up to last night’s resting point in Barchester Chronicles. This continued until Barchester was complete, whereupon I answered all number of voicemails and emails that I’d ignored for too many days. I followed this with a shower, in which I did away with yesterday’s pyjamas and jumped straight into another set — no need to waste a quarter’s worth of laundromat money when I shan’t be going leaving my apartment. I then watched 84 Charing Cross Road...

I vote as a libertarian constitutionalist influenced by Hayek and Burke, and I think as an anarchist guided by the biblical principles of liberty. My government is strictly bound by the U.S. Constitution. I have fenced foil in a diaper-suit and run for political office in a skirt-suit, but my shoes were always fabulous. Both dreadful politics and inspiring design are likely to make me teary. and yes. I’m a tshirt ninja.
